a business idea for resale of data from independently operated sensors

by z. d. winnick

service provider XYZ offers the following service:
owners of electronic sensors sign up with XYZ to provide it with streaming real-time data. XYZ stores that information, which is labeled (by sensor type, data type, geographic location, etc.) so as to make the datastream easily discoverable and its data easily searchable. third parties search XYZ for datastreams useful or necessary to their businesses. XYZ prices the data, sells it, and delivers it to the third party. the third party uses the data for products or for business planning.

an example of an implementation of this system:
residents and businesses purchase sensors that measures street traffic outside their homes or businesses. XYZ sells the information to companies that sell realtime traffic mapping to drivers.

another example:
environmental sensors in areas of scientific interest. governments pay for the data for use in climate research.

another example:
a city-wide network of individually operated security camera video feeds sold to wary city residents.
